The inspiration for the Songpingshan fire station came from the research results of the "2014 Shenzhen Fire Station Standardization Design Workshop." The aim of this project was to establish construction standards for fire stations in Shenzhen, providing a reference for future fire station constructions in the country. By incorporating the latest design principles and techniques, the Songpingshan fire station is set to revolutionize the way fire stations are built and operated.
One of the standout features of the Songpingshan fire station is its unique layout. The main entrance and exit are strategically placed at the southeast corner of the site, providing easy access for firefighters and visitors. The fire garage faces a spacious square, ensuring efficient movement of fire trucks. The interior spaces are thoughtfully organized, with the ground floor housing the fire garage, entrance hall, canteen, and communication room. The upper floors accommodate the firefighters' duty preparation room, lavatory, operation room, and auxiliary rooms. The basement is dedicated to equipment rooms. Multiple rest platforms are also incorporated to enhance the quality of life for firefighters.
The design of the Songpingshan fire station focuses on both functionality and aesthetics. The buildings feature a simple yet elegant style, with well-proportioned forms. The window-to-wall ratio and the area of curtain wall and external window meet all relevant regulations and requirements. Shading structures are utilized to optimize natural lighting and reduce energy consumption. The roof is transformed into a green fruit garden, incorporating green architecture and sponge city technologies. Rainwater absorption, storage, and seepage are controlled within the site, contributing to sustainable water management.
With a plot area of 3,660.1 square meters and a gross floor area of 5,791.64 square meters, the Songpingshan fire station can accommodate up to 7 fire trucks. The design team, led by Suiadr, meticulously planned the layout to maximize the functionality of the space while adhering to local regulations and set-back lines.
The Songpingshan fire station also prioritizes public interaction and participation. Overlapping circulation routes ensure that visiting areas are open to citizens, allowing them to witness the daily operations of the fire station without disrupting the firefighters' duties. This unique approach fosters a sense of community and transparency.
The construction of the Songpingshan fire station began in September 2016 and was completed in December 2019. It is located at the intersection of Baoshen Road and Keyuan Road in the Nanshan District of Shenzhen, China.
The design of the Songpingshan fire station was not without its challenges. Limited land area posed a significant obstacle, requiring careful negotiations with the planning bureau to meet set-back line requirements. Through innovative design solutions, the team successfully arranged the fire station and a sports field within the limited space.
The Songpingshan fire station, designed by Suiadr, is a testament to the power of innovation, technology, and thoughtful design. It sets a new benchmark for fire station architecture, combining functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. This groundbreaking project has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2023, further cementing its status as a true masterpiece in the field.
